Description
Learn how to assist people in the immediate aftermath of disaster, terrorism and pandemic. Psychological First Aid (PFA) Training is for individuals new to disaster response who want to learn the core goals of PFA, as well as for experienced practitioners who want a review of PFA. PFA Online also offers a Learning Community where participants can share experiences, receive guidance, and obtain resources.
This is 24-hour interactive course in which the user takes the role of a provider in a post-disaster/Pandemic scene.
The course features interactive features activities, video demonstrations, and mentor tips from the nation's trauma experts and survivors.
PHASE 1: PARALLELISM

Course Objectives
At the end of the course the Participant will be able to:
▸Understand how and when to provide Psychological First Aid (PFA) in the immediate aftermath of a disaster.
▸Identify the five early intervention principles.
▸Define PFA and list its basic objectives.
▸Describe the 8 strategies (Core Actions) of PFA.
▸Identify general guidelines to provide PFA.
▸Adapt PFA in diverse setting and with different populations.
▸Identify ways to take care of yourself before, during, and after providing PFA.

• Edge Exercise – 10 minutes
• Go around questions – 15 – 20 minutes

• Go there by the edge only and be curious. Try to describe to yourself what this stressor looks like, e.g. is it dry, wet, dark, a big mass, stormy, waves upon waves, etc.
